Over the past three weekends CUCC has dominated the 2010-2011 BUCS time trial circuit and secured a Varsity victory after a strong year of leadership from captains Llewellyn Kinch and Hayley Simmonds. On Saturday, April 26th the men and women’s teams raced at home for the Varsity title in the annual BUCS 25 Mile Time Trial Championships.
Both teams defeated Oxford by a sizeable margin and secured BUCS team gold as well as a number of BUCS individual titles against strong winds and tight competition. Llewellyn Kinch, Wojciech Szlachta and James Dixon secured the Varisty victory and BUCS team gold for the men seeing Kinch take individual gold with Szlachta narrowly behind for silver.
Riders Toby Weatherall, Dan Ahearn and Jake Clark were awarded BUCS team bronze with three equally impressive performances. For the women’s team, Lucy Gossage, Hayley Simmonds and Helen Hatch captured the Varsity title over Sophie Pooley, Natasha Poole and Clare Cane of Oxford University. BUCS team gold was awarded to Gossage and Simmonds, who also placed third and fifth respectively in the individual competition.
Both teams have performed equally well in the BUCS 10 Mile Time Trial Championships and the BUCS 3-UP Team Time Trial Championships held in the preceding weeks. James Dixon, Dan Ahearn and Jake Clark secured BUCS team gold for the men at the 10 Mile TT held on Saturday, April 23rd at Oxford University.
On April 16th, Toby Weatherall, Dan Ahearn and James Dixon captured another gold in the Team Time Trial over Birmingham and Durham, with Hayley Simmonds, Helen Hatch and Sarah Gallagher also taking BUCS gold over other Cambridge riders Jess Berry, Frances Scott and Isobel Rees and Durham University.
Both teams have secured a strong lead in the BUCS overall league and look to win for the fourth consecutive year.
